Handwritten “History of the Benson Bakery”, by Rose MeCurdy. Her statement in the first paragraph that said that Carl Carlson “moved his business to an old chicken slaughter house”, may be stretching the facts. Before 1915 a frame building was occupied by the Yellow Front Drug Store. From 1915-1918 an apparent new brick building (at 6109 Maple St) housed Knudson’s Groceries, which had a butcher, who may have killed and dressed chickens. |
